Acute kidney injury cases in Indonesian children rise to 241

Oct 22, 2022

Jakarta [Indonesia], October 22: The number of Indonesian children identified as having acute kidney injury rose to 241, spread across 22 provinces, mostly less than six years old, said the country's Health Minister Budi GunadiSadikin on Friday.
Of the 241, 36 children have recovered, 69 are still undergoing medical treatment, and 133 have died.
"Laboratory tests concluded that there were compounds of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol in the children's blood," Sadikin told a press conference.
Authorities have found 102 types of syrups the children were consuming at home, details of which will be announced soon.
On Thursday, Indonesia's food and drug regulatory agency BPOM announced five types of syrups produced by three domestic pharmaceutical companies that contain levels of these solvents exceeding the threshold.
