Malaysia reports 3,381 new COVID-19 infections, 16 new deaths

Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), January 8: Malaysia reported 3,381 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Friday, bringing the national total to 2,780,080, according to the health ministry.
Some 319 of the new cases are imported, with 3,062 being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.
Another 16 deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 31,644.
About 3,447 patients have been released after recovery, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 2,708,739.
There are 39,697 active cases, 254 are being held in intensive care and 114 of those are in need of assisted breathing.
The country reported 216,668 vaccine doses administered on Friday alone and some 79.7 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 78.5 percent are fully vaccinated and 23.2 percent have received boosters.
