U.S. dollar skids as Japanese yen rebounds sharply

New York [US], October 22: The U.S. dollar weakened on Friday, while the Japanese currency staged a sharp rebound.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.79 percent to 111.9900 in late trading.
The yen rallied noticeably against the U.S. dollar, after hitting a fresh 32-year low earlier in the session.
In late New York trading, the euro climbed to 0.9847 U.S. dollars from 0.9783 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.1274 U.S. dollars from 1.1233 dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar was up to 0.6366 U.S. dollars from 0.6275 U.S. dollars.
The U.S. dollar bought 147.23 Japanese yen, lower than 150.14 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar dropped to 0.9989 Swiss francs from 1.0034 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.3656 Canadian dollars from 1.3763 Canadian dollars.
