Feb 10, 2024

Avdiivka [Ukraine], February 10: Ukrainian military officials described the situation in the city of Avdiivka as extremely challenging as Russian forces were storming the suburbs.
The Kyiv Post on February 9 quoted Mr. Vitaliy Barabash, head of the Avdiivka military government , confirming on television that Russian forces were entering the suburbs of the eastern Ukrainian city .
The official described the situation as very challenging as Russian troops sought to encircle the city from its southern and northern flanks, trying to cut off the coke plant from the city.
Mr. Barabash confirmed that Russian forces had entered the suburbs of Avdiivka and were present in some private areas of the city, but Ukrainian soldiers had successfully stopped them.
"I read on Telegram channels that Avdiivka has fallen. There is no such thing. The time when 'everything is lost' and 'there is no turning back' is still very far away," Mr. Barabash stated, saying that rumors that dishonor the Ukrainian forces .
Currently, there are still 935 residents remaining in Avdiivka despite the fighting, complicating evacuation efforts. On February 8, 6 people were taken away. The coke factory is an important point in the defense line protecting the city.
Recent satellite images from the Institute for the Study of War (USA) show that Russian forces have advanced slightly from the south of Avdiivka. Mr. Barabash warned this week that Russia is re-escalating hostilities to seize Avdiivka and is advancing from all directions with very large forces. In October 2023, Russia attempted to advance to control Avdiivka.
Avdiivka is considered the gateway to the city of Donetsk, which holds strategic importance. Controlling Avdiivka will be a milestone for Russia, especially as it approaches two years since Moscow began its military campaign in Ukraine and the Russian presidential election is approaching.
